The value methodology (VM) is a systematic and structured approach for improving projects, products, and processes.(VM이란 프로젝트, 제품, 프로세스를 향상시키기 위한 체계적이며 구조화된 어프로치이다.)  VM, which is also known as value engineering, is used to analyze and improve manufacturing products and processes, design and construction projects, and business and administrative processes. (VM은 제조품, 프로세스, 건설프로젝트의 설계 및 시공, 비지니스/관리프로세스 등을 향상시키고 분석을 하기 위하여 사용될 수 있다.)  

VM helps achieve an optimum balance between function, performance, quality, safety, and cost. The proper balance results in the maximum value for the project. (VM은 기능, 성능, 품질, 안전성 및 비용 사이의 최적 균형을 이루는데 도움을 준다)
